In 1994 volleyball Olympian Jon Stanley established the second Hawaii volleyball club on Oahu, joining Longy Okamoto in pioneering the sport on the island. Stanley’s goal was to provide players the opportunity to compete with their mainland counterparts and gain exposure to university and college coaches and scouts. The skills taught in the Hawaii Jr. Volleyball Club also prepared youth players to make a stronger contribution to their high school varsity and junior varsity teams.
Over the years, volleyball in Hawaii has become a mainstream sport with the establishment of numerous girls teams and a handful of boys teams. The Hawaii Jr. Volleyball Club focused away from competitive play and became an instructional organization in 2005. The club currently conducts weekly volleyball clinics each Sunday at Kaiser High School.
